What is the District Collector’s Internship Programme (DCIP)?
DCIP is an initiative of the Kozhikode District Administration that brings young citizens into the heart of governance. It lets you work closely with the Collectorate and departments, translating your ideas and energy into real public-service impact.
Is it a paid internship?
No. DCIP is an unpaid programme — the reward is the exposure, mentorship, and experience you gain from working within government.
Duration of the programme?
Four full-time months.
Do I have to be from Kozhikode?
No. Anyone from India or abroad can apply as long as they can stay in Kozhikode for the internship period.
Will accommodation be provided?
No. Interns arrange their own stay. Many opt for nearby hostels or shared spaces.
Who can apply?
Age: 20 – 30 years
Education: Completed or pursuing an undergraduate degree from a recognized institution (India or abroad)
Commitment: Four months of full-time work in Kozhikode
Background: Open to students, graduates, or professionals from any discipline
Essence: What matters most is your curiosity, compassion, and commitment to serve
Do I need prior experience?
Not necessary, but volunteer or non-profit experience is an advantage.
Can government employees apply?
No. The programme is open only to students and independent professionals.
Can I apply if I am on a sabbatical?
Yes, if you can commit full-time to the programme.
Is there any application fee?
No. Applying is free.
Can international students apply?
Yes. They must stay in Kozhikode for the internship period and follow local guidelines.
How do I apply?
Only through the official online form on the DCIP website. Postal applications are not accepted.
What are the stages of selection?
Application Form – Tell us who you are and why you want to join.
Expert Evaluation – Mentors shortlist applicants who show purpose and compassion.
Personal Interview – A short interaction to understand your motivation and fit.
Final Selection – Based on overall merit and alignment with DCIP’s ethos.
Is there any written test?
No. Only the application and interview.
Will there be an interview?
Yes. Shortlisted candidates are informed of the time and mode by email.
Do I need references?
Yes. At least one reference from someone who knows you well personally or professionally.
How competitive is the process?
Highly selective — hundreds apply each cycle and a limited number are chosen.
What kind of work will I do?
You’ll join projects in areas like: community engagement, public health, women and child development, environment, ICT governance, and citizen outreach.
Will I work individually or in teams?
Both. Teams are formed as per project needs, but every intern submits individual reports.
Do I receive training?
Yes. An orientation session is held at the beginning to equip you with the required skills and understanding.
What are the working hours?
It’s target-based, not strictly 10 to 5. Interns must meet deadlines and report progress fortnightly.
Who will I report to?
You’ll work under the guidance of DCIP mentors and the District Collectorate team.
Will I get to interact with the District Collector?
Yes, depending on your project and performance, you’ll interact with senior officers and the Collector during reviews or briefings.

Can I propose my own ideas or projects?

Is Malayalam required?

What makes DCIP different from NGO internships?
You work inside the government system — with direct access to administration and decision-making processes.
Will I get a certificate?
Yes. On successful completion of the internship and submission of all reports, you receive a Certificate of Completion signed by the District Collector.
Is the internship full-time?
Yes. Interns must commit to four full months of on-ground engagement in Kozhikode.
Can I continue college or work elsewhere during DCIP?
No. DCIP is a full-time internship that requires complete focus and active participation.
Do I need to submit reports?
Yes. Interns are expected to submit fortnightly progress reports and a final project report upon completion.
Can the internship be extended?
Extensions are considered only in exceptional cases, depending on project needs and administrative approval.
Will I get a job after DCIP?
DCIP does not guarantee employment, but it significantly enhances your exposure and opens pathways into policy, governance, and development sectors.
