ABCD Data Collection for Tribal Welfare
Background
Ensuring access to basic documents is the foundation for extending social security and welfare benefits to tribal communities. Many tribal households still lack these essential documents. The Kozhikode District Administration, in collaboration with the Tribal Development Department, undertook this initiative under the leadership of District Collector A. Geetha IAS, who had pioneered the model during her tenure in Wayanad. As per the Collector’s direction, DCIP interns played a leading role alongside TEOs and ST promoters, carrying out a comprehensive household survey across all Unnathis and mapping the entire tribal population of the district.
The major goal of this initiative was to ensure that every tribal resident possessed basic documents vital for accessing welfare schemes and social security. As part of the drive, DCIP interns designed and circulated a structured Google Form, while ST promoters were oriented on its use for field-level data collection. Interns played an active role in planning, tool design, execution, field monitoring, data analysis, dashboard development, and continuous follow-up, making the initiative more effective and result-driven.
The initiative was implemented with the wholehearted support of the two Tribal Extension Officers (TEOs), who coordinated the process, facilitated meetings with promoters, and supervised fieldwork. Data on Aadhaar, Voter ID, Ration Cards, and Bank Accounts was collected from the entire Unnathi population in Kozhikode, with promoters guiding individuals to apply for missing documents.
Based on identified gaps, ABCD Mega Campaigns were conducted on 6th and 7th November 2025 at Vilangad (Perambra) and Vattachira (Kodenchery), providing on-the-spot facilitation for essential documentation services.
