Compassionate
Kozhikode
Background
Launched in 2015 by the Kozhikode District Administration under the leadership of District Collector N. Prashanth IAS, Compassionate Kozhikode is a pioneering district-level initiative that seeks to embed compassion and inclusivity into the core of local governance. Designed to mobilize the inherent empathy within communities, the initiative brings together government departments, civil society groups, and citizens to collaboratively address local challenges with kindness and dignity. It is founded on the belief that most people are inherently compassionate—and that governance must create platforms for this compassion to be expressed meaningfully.
Compassionate Kozhikode is a transformative platform dedicated to nurturing a culture of compassion, with a strong focus on marginalized communities throughout Kozhikode. The initiative implements diverse, community-focused projects aimed at addressing key social welfare concerns such as food security, mental health, education, and dignified public services. A range of impactful programs, including Operation Sulaiman, Mental Institute Intervention, COK Platform, Savarigirigiri, Project 4N, Sampoorna, and others, were carried out under this initiative, all contributing to the well-being and dignity of marginalized sections. Through multi-stakeholder collaboration, the program creates supportive environments that enhance social dignity and well-being. The District Collector’s Internship Program (DCIP), also an initiative under Compassionate Kozhikode, plays a crucial role by assisting in project execution, digital platform management, and community outreach, thereby expanding the program’s reach and ensuring its positive impact.
