Cradle
Background
The CRADLE (Child Rearing and Development - a Life Cycle Elucidation) program, part of the Nammude Kozhikode initiative by S. Sambasiva Rao IAS, has been initiated by Kozhikode's district administration, in collaboration with Local Self Government Institutions and the Department of Women and Child Development, to promote optimal child development. This initiative aims to ensure a foundation for lifelong learning and holistic growth for children, transforming traditional Anganwadis into dynamic learning spaces.
The CRADLE initiative is a comprehensive, multi-faceted program designed to foster child development in Kozhikode. Through Anganwadis, it provides daily nutrition for children and supplements for pregnant and lactating women. GEMS books are distributed to support literacy and skill development, while the CRADLE App, integrated with Nammude Kozhikode, offers parents insights into their children’s developmental milestones, with assessment tools crafted in collaboration with IMHANS. The program focuses on enhancing infrastructure in 259 Anganwadis and introduces innovative teaching methods for holistic development. DCIP helped in the development of GEMS books and provided background work for the development of the mobile app, coordinating closely with Anganwadi teachers. This approach ensures children are nurtured to reach their full potential and support a smooth transition from early childhood care to formal schooling.
