Mundakkai Landslide Relief – A Trial by Earth: Kozhikode’s People Powered Response to Crisis
Background
In July 2024, the Mundakkai and Chooralmala areas were struck by a devastating landslide, causing widespread destruction. In response, the Kozhikode District Administration, under the guidance of the District Collector Snehil Kumar Singh IAS, coordinated a large-scale relief operation. The crisis sparked a monumental, community-driven effort, demonstrating the collective spirit of the district. Citizens, volunteers, youth groups, and civil agencies worked alongside administrative officials to provide immediate aid, turning a moment of tragedy into an example of solidarity and resilience.
By the order of the District Collector, social media posts from the official social media account of the district collector mobilized support across Kozhikode, with citizens converging at the Collectorate to assist in relief operations. DCIP interns played a pivotal role in on-ground coordination and digital outreach, sharing verified updates, helplines, and calls for donations. The effort ensured timely and targeted assistance, transforming relief from a logistical task into a demonstration of shared governance. This initiative highlighted the capacity of citizens and institutions to collaborate, proving that compassion is the strongest foundation during crises.
