Electoral Literacy Club
Background
Electoral Literacy Club (ELC), under the Systematic Voters’ Education and Electoral Participation (SVEEP) framework, promotes electoral literacy and youth engagement in the democratic process. The initiative, with active collaboration across colleges, aims to ensure responsible, informed voting by encouraging voter registration and participation.
ELC is a platform designed to engage college students in understanding their electoral rights and the voting process. It encourages informed, ethical participation through interactive activities and hands-on experiences. The Electoral Literacy Clubs were set up in 120 colleges, including 60 Calicut University colleges, in collaboration with NSS, promoting voter registration and democratic participation. DCIP interns contributed by facilitating the creation of club structures, organizing awareness campaigns, and coordinating events like mock elections and street plays. The initiative aims to foster youth involvement and ensure inclusivity, especially for differently-abled students. Through these efforts, ELC aims to strengthen the culture of electoral participation and build future leaders.
